Vital Niyibaruta is a coffee farmer from Nkonge Hill. He’s a father of 4 children and is 39 years old.
Vital's journey into the world of coffee began in 2004 when his parents gave him a small plot of land. It was on this humble patch that he grew his very first coffee plants. Over time, driven by his unwavering determination, he acquired additional lands, piece by piece, gradually expanding his coffee business. Today, he has over 190 coffee trees spread across his 4 farms, each one bearing the fruits of his labor.
Vital grows coffee, but his true passion lies elsewhere. In 2006, he made the choice to stop attending school and joined carpenters at Nyamiyogoro Hill (the neighboring hill to Nkonge Hill). He spent a full year as an apprentice, learning about this craft. His parents weren’t thrilled about him leaving school, but Vital always had a passion for carpentry.
Using the money he earned from growing coffee, he was able to purchase the necessary tools to begin his own carpentry business where his main clientele are young couples preparing for their marriage with a home.
His business is quite successful, but as with all businesses, Vital is met with a challenge - there just isn’t enough wood for all of the projects there are to do.
